Steven Cacchio

Steven Cacchio

President and CEO

Steven Cacchio has a broad-based banking career focusing on community banking in upstate New York.  He also worked for six years as a Bank Examiner for the Comptroller of the Currency in the Syracuse office.  Thereafter, he held increasingly responsible positions with Alliance Bank in the Syracuse area, ending as Senior Vice President in charge of all retail operations.  When Alliance was acquired by NBT in 2013, Mr. Cacchio resigned to become the Chief Operating Officer of the $800 million Savings Bank of Danbury, Connecticut.  He is a graduate of the University of Hartford and he obtained his MS in accounting from Syracuse University.  Mr. Cacchio and his wife, Carol, have two teenage sons.

Darlene Mirrer started with Champlain National Bank in 2016 and is responsible for overseeing Retail Banking and the Consumer Loan Department.  Before coming to Champlain National Bank, Ms. Mirrer spent 30 years working for National Bank of Delaware County, most recently as Senior Vice President and Senior Lender.  Her banking career has included positions in business development, branch management, commercial and consumer lending, as well as training and compliance.  She enjoys running, snowmobiling, and spending time with friends and family.

Lisa Roberts began her employment with Champlain National Bank in August 1994 as AVP/Commercial Lender.  Ms. Roberts was promoted to Vice President in 1996 and then to Senior Vice President and Senior Lender for the bank in 2007.  Prior to joining Champlain National Bank, Ms. Roberts was employed by Evergreen Bank (now TD Banknorth) where she gained experience as a credit analyst and small business lender.  Ms. Roberts holds a BS from SUNY Plattsburgh and is a founding member of the Champlain-Rouses Point Rotary Club and the Treasurer of the Champlain Children’s Learning Center.

Sarah Schmidt started at Champlain National Bank in December 2018 as the CFO.  Prior to joining the Bank, Ms. Schmidt was the Corporate Controller for the Sporn Company, Inc. in Burlington, VT.  Her banking background includes 10 years working for Merchants Bank in South Burlington, VT (now Community Bank) where she was the Controller and Director of Financial Reporting.  Ms. Schmidt also has corporate accounting and management experience in the food and energy industries.  She holds a BA from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.  She serves on the Board for the Chittenden County Humane Society and resides in Vermont.

VP/Tri-Lakes Manager

Renee Darrah started with Champlain National Bank in 2015 as the VP and Director of Consumer Lending before moving into her current position where she is responsible for the business development of the Tri-Lakes region and management of the Lake Placid branch.  Prior to joining Champlain National Bank, Renee worked for more than 10 years in banking in Saranac Lake as a Branch Manager and Mortgage Loan Originator.  She is also the Treasurer for the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.

Valarie Favaro

VP/Audit and Compliance

Valarie Favaro is Vice President of Audit and Compliance and has over 25 years of experience in the banking field with an emphasis on bank operations, regulatory compliance and internal audit. Valarie is responsible for overseeing all audit functions, as well as regulatory compliance. She is also responsible for the development and oversight of the bank’s Bank Secrecy Act program. Valarie works closely with all departments assisting members of staff, management and the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors in successfully discharging their responsibilities. Valarie is a Certified Community Bank Compliance Officer and is a Certified Community Bank Internal Auditor. Prior to joining Champlain National Bank in 2005, she was Assistant Vice President/Compliance Officer for a $350 million financial institution.

Edward Finnerty

VP/Bank Counsel

Edward Finnerty joined Champlain National Bank in January 2003 as Loan Production and Quality Control Manager. He was named a Vice President of the Bank in 2005 and added the position of Bank Counsel in 2012. Mr. Finnerty has overall responsibility for handling residential and commercial loan closings, as well as overseeing all other legal and contractual relationships for the Bank. Prior to joining Champlain National Bank, Mr. Finnerty maintained a private law practice for 20 years in Lake Placid where he resides. He came to the North Country in 1978 as Associate Legal Counsel for the Lake Placid Olympic Organizing Committee. Prior to assuming that position he was an associate attorney with the firm of Higgins, Roberts, Beyerl & Coan in Schenectady, NY. He earned his B.A. degree from St. John Fisher College and was awarded a J.D. from Albany Law School. Mr. Finnerty is active in a number of civic organizations in the Lake Placid community. He is currently Secretary of the Rotary Club of Lake Placid, Vice Chair of the Lake Placid Essex County Visitors Bureau, Treasurer of the Housing Assistance Program of Essex County and Treasurer of the Adirondack Architectural Heritage. Mr. Finnerty was also inducted in the Lake Placid Hall of Fame in 1998.

Jacqueline Hallock

Jacqueline Hallock joined the Bank in June 2008 as the Lake Placid Branch Manager, and became an Officer in 2009.  In 2012 she was promoted to the Director of Marketing where she handles all aspects of the Bank’s marketing, advertising and public relations.  Before her banking career, Jacqueline spent two years as a Television News Producer at the local NBC affiliate.  Jacqueline holds a BA from St. Lawrence University and an MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science.  A North Country native, Jacqueline loves to travel and has lived in Trois Rivieres, Quebec; Anchorage, Alaska; and London, England.  She and her husband, Thom Hallock, live in Plattsburgh.

VP/Electronic Funds Transfer Manager

Judy Hoskins joined Champlain National Bank in March 1994.  Her responsibilities include the management of wire transfers and ACH processing, internet and mobile banking, as well as the Bank’s ATM and debit card programs.  In July 2012, she achieved Shesunoff ACH Specialist certification.  Judy earned her BA and MA in mathematics from SUNY Potsdam.  She is a life-long Essex County resident, and the second generation of her family to be part of Champlain National Bank's management team.

Tim Kononan

VP/Commercial Lender

Tim Kononan joined Champlain National Bank in 2007 as part of the commercial lending team.  He is responsible for generating and managing commercial relationships in all of Champlain National Bank’s markets.  Tim has an extensive banking background and has held management level positions at several banks in Vermont and New Hampshire.   These positions include senior retail manager, regional commercial manager, and regional branch manager.  Tim is committed to banking education and teaches courses on banking at the Community College of Vermont, the New England School of Banking, and the Northern New England School of Banking.  Tim is also active in the community, serving on the board of trustees of the Clinton County Historical Association, the loan committee of Adirondack Economic Development Corporation, and is a member of the Plattsburgh Noon Rotary.

Kevin Richard joined Champlain National Bank in June 2012 as the IT Administrator and assumed his current position in January 2015. Prior to joining the Bank, he was the Systems Manager for the Press Republican. Kevin also worked in the Information Technology field during his tour in the Air Force.

Marilyn Strong

VP/Deposit and Loan Services Manager

Marilyn Strong joined Champlain National Bank in 1989 as a teller.  In 1991 she became the CD and IRA Specialist and in 1996 she was promoted to the Deposit Operations Supervisor.  In 2006 she was promoted to AVP and Deposit Operations Manager.  In her current position Marilyn manages staff and the everyday interests of the Deposit Operations and Loan Services Departments.  She is a lifelong resident of Reber, NY and has two children.  She is active in the Reber Methodist Church.

Jennifer Pecore

Jennifer Pecore

AVP/Commercial Portfolio and Collections Manager

Jennifer Pecore started with the Bank in 2001 in the Executive Department, before moving into the Commercial Loan Department.  In 2007 she became a Commercial Credit Assistant, and in 2013 became the Commercial Loan Quality Control Specialist.  In 2014 Jennifer was promoted to Loan Operations and Servicing Supervisor, and in 2015 became the AVP/Loan Operations Manager.  In 2016 she became responsible for introducing Champlain National Bank’s Indirect Lending Program to car dealers in our market area, and managing the Indirect Lending Department.  In her current role, she provides assistance to the Bank’s commercial lenders on new loan requests, supervises the loan systems, and manages the collection of past due loans.

Chairman of the Board
Peter S. Paine, Jr.

Peter S. Paine, Jr.

Mr. Paine has been Chairman of Champlain National Bank and its holding company, Champlain Bank Corporation for over 20 years, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather.  A graduate of Princeton University (where he was class valedictorian), Oxford University (where he studied law as a Rhodes Scholar) and Harvard Law School, Mr. Paine is a member of the New York and English Bars.  A retired partner of the international law firm, Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, he practiced law in New York, London and Paris.  In keeping with his family's background in the pulp and paper industry, Mr. Paine served as a Director of Great Northern Nekoosa Corporation for many years.

Mr. Paine is a committed conservationist and has played a leading role in the modern efforts to protect the Adirondack Park.  He was closely involved with pioneering legislation creating the Adirondack Park Agency and the New York Wild, Scenic and Recreational Rivers system and served on the Adirondack Park Agency for some 25 years.  He chaired the Adirondack Nature Conservancy for four years and continues to serve as a Trustee.  He is also a Trustee of the Adirondack Land Trust.  Mr. Paine is a past Chair of the Board of Fort Ticonderoga and was the first person to receive their prestigious Marquis de Montcalm Award for his leadership of the Fort.  He is also a Former Trustee and Advisory Council Member of the Adirondack Foundation and President of the Boquet Foundation.Peter Paine sitting with his two dogs Bea and Wendy

In appreciation of his efforts to endow scholarships for Americans at Oxford, his Oxford College, Christ Church, made him an Honorary Fellow and he was also named a "Distinguished Friend of Oxford" by the University.  The Republic of France has appointed Mr. Paine a Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite as well as a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques in recognition of his legal and cultural contributions to French businesses and institutions.  Mr. Paine and his wife, Patty, spend the bulk of their time at their home in Willsboro but still maintain a house in New York City.  They have three children, two of whom, (Peter, III and Alex) serve on the Bank/Holding Company Boards, and seven grandchildren.

Roderic Giltz is the Chairman of Northern Insuring Agency, and is based in Plattsburgh. He received a B.S. from St. Lawrence University. Active in his community, Mr. Giltz serves on the Board of Directors for The Development Corporation, is active with the CVPH Medical Center Finance Committee, is a Trustee of the William H. Miner Agricultural Research Institute, and is the Chairman of the NCPR Executive Council.

Peter S. Paine III

Peter S. Paine III is a Vice Chairman of the Bank’s Board of Directors and sits on the Audit, Finance and Retail Committees. Mr. Paine is trained as a lawyer, but has spent most of his career as a management consultant to pharmaceutical and biotech companies. He is a graduate of Princeton University, Oxford University and Vanderbilt University School of Law. He splits his time between his home in Princeton, NJ and his family’s camp in Willsboro, NY. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Paine can be found, in what spare time he has, hiking in the High Peaks, boating on Lake Champlain or casting a line to tempt a bass or trout. He and his wife, Els, have three children.

Mr. Boire is the owner of CDC Real Estate Inc., a commercial and industrial real estate firm based in Rouses Point, and has worked in real estate and economic development since 1992.  His specialty is assisting Canadian companies with their US expansion plans as well as assisting local clients with their economic development and marketing needs.  Mr. Boire is a graduate of St. Michael’s College in Colchester, VT, where he obtained two Bachelor degrees in Economics and Business Administration.  He is active in the New York State Commercial Association of REALTORS and currently sits on the Board of Plattsburgh Community Housing Inc.  He and his wife, Niki, have been married more than 25 years and have two adult children who also live locally.

Mr. Brady is a partner and co-founder of Long Run Wealth Advisors, LLC, a Lake Placid based financial advisory firm.  He has been involved in asset management, securities trading and research for more than twenty years at a variety of global institutions.  He also serves on the boards of the Adirondack Health Foundation, St. Joseph’s Treatment and Recovery Center, Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA) and the Lake Placid Land Conservancy.  Mr. Brady grew up in Saranac Lake and lived for more than two decades in Boston and New York City before returning to the Tri-Lakes.  He and his wife, Teresa, are active members of the community and are excited to have the opportunity to raise their three children in the Adirondacks.

Alice Cole is the former Managing Partner of Essex Asset Management in Vero Beach, FL, where she worked from 2009 - 2016.  Prior to joining Essex Asset Management, Ms. Cole earned two Bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Political Science from Occidental College, graduating with honors.  She is a Certified Financial Planner™ and a Certified Investment Management Analyst™.  Ms. Cole is the Chairman of the Board for the Berkshire School, and she sits on the Environmental Learning Center Foundation Board.

William Kissel

William Kissel owns and operates the law office of William H. Kissel in Lake Placid, New York, which he opened in 1982.  From 1978 – 1982, Mr. Kissel was the General Counsel for the Lake Placid 1980 Olympic Winter Games.  He received his J.D., Cum Laude, from Syracuse University.  Mr. Kissel enjoys skiing, hiking and fishing, and lives in Lake Placid with his wife, Gail.

Raymond Martin is the founder and owner of Raymond J. Martin, CPA, PC in Tupper Lake.  He was formerly a partner in the firm of Sweeney & Associates, CPA’s and Sweeney & Martin, CPA’s in Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake.  He holds a BS from SUNY Brockport in Business Administration.  Mr. Martin is a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.  He and his wife, Lori, have been married 37 years and have three adult children.

Vincent McClelland represents LandVest in the Adirondacks in their Timberland, Consulting and Real Estate Marketing divisions.  He received a BS in Forestry from the University of Vermont.  Mr. McClelland has served on various non-profit boards, and currently serves on the board of the Adirondack Land Owners Association.  A long time resident of Keene Valley, he has three children with his wife Barbara, and enjoys pond hockey, hiking and back country skiing.

Deena Giltz McCullough is a third generation and first female president and CEO of Northern Insuring Agency.  Headquartered in Plattsburgh, Northern has a staff of 36 and two branch offices in Potsdam and Glens Falls. Under Ms. Giltz McCullough's leadership, Northern has won numerous awards including being recognized as a Best Company to Work in NYS by NYS-SHRM.  She holds several professional designations, and is most proud of completing the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland Coach Certification Program. Ms. Giltz McCullough is also an International Coaching Federation Associate Certified Coach.  She believes that our community is a better place to work, live and play if we all contribute our talents by volunteering.  She is involved in organizations focused on healthcare, education, banking and suicide prevention.  A generally curious person, personal passions include quality time with family & friends, any water or snow activity, and being quiet.

Alexander Paine

Alex Paine has been a director of Champlain National bank since 2003.  He is CEO and Co-Founder of WebSight Design, Inc., a California-based internet business that provides web design, web development, hosting, and digital marketing services.  Mr. Paine also serves as Chief Information Officer for Pacific Union International, which is Northern California’s leading residential real estate company.  His philanthropic interests focus on education and the environment.  He enjoys spending time with his wife and two young daughters.

John Perley

John Perley

Mr. Perley has a long career in the banking industry starting at Chemical Bank in 1961.  He later served as President of Amoskeag National Bank in Manchester, NH.  He joined Champlain National Bank in 1989 and served as its President until his retirement in 2006.  His retirement was short-lived, as he returned to the Bank in 2015 to again serve as President and CEO.  Mr. Perley is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth.  He is a former member of the American Bankers Association where he served on the Government Relations Council.  During his tenure as President, he was involved in many local community groups, including the CVPH Hospital Foundation and the Chamber of Commerce in Plattsburgh.
