If you need cash, your Debit Card serves as your ATM Card, and can be used worldwide, including at any of Allpoint’s 55,000 ATMs. You’ll breathe easier when using your Debit Card knowing Mastercard® Zero Liability Protection applies to your purchases and ATM transactions. Our Debit Card is also compatible with Google Pay and Apple Pay!

Your Debit Card has a chip on the front of it, which looks like a small metallic square. This chip is virtually impossible to duplicate, which means attempts by a fraudster to create and use counterfeit cards will be much harder, providing you with a higher level of security.


using your debit card

When you are ready to checkout in a store, insert your card into the card reader, with the chip going into the reader first and facing up. Follow the instructions on the screen. You must leave the card in the reader until the transaction is complete or when the card reader instructs you to remove it. If the card reader doesn’t have a spot to insert your card, not to worry, you can always swipe your card using the magnetic stripe on the back.

Manage your debit card when and how you want, right from our Mobile Banking App! From setting spending limits, to requesting notifications for certain types of transactions, to blocking charges, you are in complete control of how your card is used.


temporarily suspend your card

Not sure where you placed your wallet? You can temporarily suspend your debit card through our Mobile Banking App to prevent it from being used. Once you find your card, it’s easy to reactivate it with the touch of a button. Suspending a card will not prevent pre-authorized transactions from being processed. If your card is ever lost or stolen, you can quickly and permanently disable the card through the App. Contact us to order a new card. Both features are available under Manage Cards.

Countries that use chip cards have seen a huge decline in counterfeit card fraud. However, no single technology will prevent fraud. Chips are only part of the greater effort being made by banks to combat thieves. Card and payment information can still be stolen and used to make purchases online and over the phone. That’s why it is so important for you to monitor your bank account and to let us know as soon as you notice a transaction you didn’t make.

Your account is continuously being monitored for unusual activity, and we will contact you if we detect a change in your normal debit card usage.

When potential debit card fraud is detected, you'll receive an automated text notification with the option to reply with “V” for Valid or “F” for Fraud. If no response is received from you after five minutes, you'll receive an email. If you don’t respond to the email, after five minutes you'll receive a phone call, again asking you to confirm or deny if the transaction is fraudulent. If you don't respond to your cell phone, after eight hours you'll receive a phone call to the work phone number we have on file for you.

Remember: our messages will never ask for your PIN, account number, or other personal information. It’s also very important to keep all your contact information up to date with us.

Using your Champlain National Bank Debit Card is one of the safest ways you can pay because you’re protected if fraudulent charges are made with a lost or stolen card with Mastercard® Zero Liability Protection. The Electronic Funds Transfers brochure you received with your debit card and at account opening details your liability for any unauthorized transfers. The most important thing you can do is to let us know immediately if your debit card is ever lost or stolen.
