A CHIP FOR EXTRA SECURITY
Your Debit Card has a chip on the front of it, which looks like a small metallic square. This chip is virtually impossible to duplicate, which means attempts by a fraudster to create and use counterfeit cards will be much harder, providing you with a higher level of security.
USING YOUR DEBIT CARD
When you ready to checkout in a store, insert your card into the card reader, with the chip going into the reader first and facing up. Follow the instructions on the screen. You must leave the card in the reader until the transaction is complete or when the card reader instructs you to remove it. If the card reader doesn’t have a spot to insert your card, not to worry, you can always swipe your card using the magnetic stripe on the back.
SIGNING VERSUS USING A PIN
You will be able to continue signing your name as normal during a transaction with a chip debit card. In order to do this, select credit, or simply ask the cashier for a signature option. Signing can help prove you were really there and approved the transaction, or that it wasn’t you. However, some businesses may not have a signature option, so make sure you know your PIN.
TEMPORARILY SUSPEND YOUR DEBIT CARD
Not sure where you placed your wallet? Now you can temporarily suspend your debit card through our Mobile App to prevent it from being used. Once you find your card, it’s easy to reactivate it with a touch of a button. This feature, which is found under the Manage Cards tab, can also be used if you don’t need your debit card for a period of time, like a hospital stay. If your card is ever lost or stolen, you will now be able to quickly and permanently shut your card off through the App.
MONITORING YOUR ACCOUNT
Countries that use chip cards have seen a huge decline in counterfeit card fraud. However, no single technology will prevent fraud. Chips are only part of the greater effort being made by banks to combat thieves. Card and payment information can still be stolen and used to make purchases online and over the phone. That’s why it is so important for you to monitor your bank account and to let us know as soon as you notice a transaction you didn’t make.
FRAUD ALERT COMMUNICATION
Your account is continuously being monitored for unusual activity, and we will contact you if we detect a change in your normal debit card usage. When potential debit card fraud is detected, you will receive an automated email notification with the option to reply with “fraud” or “no fraud”. If no response is received from you after five minutes, you will receive a text alert from text message number 96923, which is our CNatBk Fraud Center. This message alert will also have the “fraud” or “no fraud” option. If you don’t respond to the text alert after five minutes you will receive an automated phone call from (800) 297-8990 between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm, again asking you to confirm or deny if the transaction is fraudulent. Remember: our messages will never ask for your PIN, account number, or other personal information. It’s also very important to keep all your contact information up-to-date with us. We also suggest you add our Fraud Center phone number and text message number to your phone's contacts so you will know it is us calling and not a fraudster.
